Bond: The $70 Million Man
Retiring for good any doubt about Daniel Craig’s Bond
bankability, Quantum of Solace set a franchise record at the box office this
weekend with a $70.4 million take. Since every other studio rolled over for
007, his only new competition was the limited release of Danny Boyle’s Slumdog
Millionaire and the foreign film A Christmas Tale. The buzz-crazed Slumdog played in only 10 theaters, but beat Bond’s per-theater average, raising
expectations for its wide release. Getting bumped from its previous spot at
number one was Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which raked in $36,130,000 in its
second week. Role Models and High School Musical 3: Senior Year took the
third and fourth spots, while “Changeling” fell to number five.—Movietimes.com Movie News Bureau
