I think this movie was worth seeing overall. It is a much more creative movie than others that have been released lately. Hollywood seems to have lost original ideas (Transformers, Spider-Man) what other 80s TV show or comic book will be made into a movie next? At least Cloverfield was an original idea and is entertaining.
Do not expect depth from this monster flick. Do expect thrills and entertainment from this enjoyable film. Catch it in theaters, it won't be the save on your TV.
The New Spider Pigs. This is the best movie of 2008. The comparisons with “The Blair Witch Project†end with the shaky, hand held camera point of view. The comparisons with “The Simpson’s Movie†spider-pig character should cease as well. The new spider-pig is not even the main monster. And while this film evokes powerful memories of the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, particularly for anyone who was there, “Cloverfieldâ € is obviously “only†a monster movie. It’s also the most original American monster movie in years. I would have to include last year’s brilliant South Korean monster movie, “The Hostâ€, as setting a new level of sophistication in going beyond the formula of this genre. I’m in the middle of reading Don DeLillo’s “Falling Manâ€. This book deals with the aftermath (and premath) of 9/11 and it has a deep and insightful look at that catastrophe. “Cloverfieldâ € does not overtly attempt to invite the comparison but the realistic horror that hits Manhattan in this film is still intensely compelling. Yet there were also many, many parts that had me laughing out loud at this believable nightmare. The head of the statue of Liberty hurtles through the air and lands in the middle of the street. Are her eyes closed? Is this really happening? It all seems so real. Without apparent editing, the one hand-held camera makes it seem to be so. You are in the situation of, “We’re all going to die!†Delightfully horrorshow. Cheers.
Without a doubt one of the worst films ever made. Bad acting, story, and headache producing photography. Save your money, don't go. This is probably the first monster movie made where by the end you know nothing about the monster; what it is, where it came from, how it arrived in NYC, what it eats, what it wants, and how to get rid of it. As a viewer you are offered nothing, not even a good time viewing. So producers you are getting this "nothing" review back. This kind of cheap exploitation disguised as entertainement is an embarrasment on the craft of film making. Shame on you & shame on me for being ed into paying good money to watch this no value trash. NO STARS!
I had to give it one star to get this review posted...NO STARS!
Bold move by director to shoot entirely in the first person, hand-held camera perspective. Whether it helped the movie or not greatly depends on the viewers preference. For me it made many scenes much more intense and edgy. I like the movie much more than many of the reviews I have read and am a pretty tough critic on plots that insult my intelligence. There is one huge gapping problem with the story that bugged me the whole movie and would have take 10 seconds to correct while the characters were in the looted Video-store, but for some stupid reason they did not bother addressing the issue.
Overall it was intense and had me on the edge of my seat many times without having to go for cheap standard quick scares. Great top-notch special effects.
s***ty non-ending left totally open for part 2.
All I can say is Blair Witch Project - I should have left after 15 mins. into this movie. I was so sick at the end of the movie from the camera movement. Two things, how did the camera battery last so long, 2nd most folks get better at using a camera even after a short period of time. What a waste, only cool part was the few looks at the CG monster....wait for Netflix on this one folks.
SUCKED with a capital SUCKED ! ! ! Could have done a better job myself!! Did I mention that this movie SUCKED?First movie to actually make me sick!
It was the wost movie I ever seen. The whole movie was from a video camera and it moved all the time. I got sick two or three times at my stomach because the camera was moving or it was turning around fast.I only spend 4 dollas at Cinimark at 20 and carrier but it was'nt even worth that much.If I could give no stars for this movie,I would.
